Study: Higher Education Faculty/Staff Are Not Receiving Quality, Effective Training

Feb. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Chicago, IL – February 24, 2011 – HR Solutions, Inc. released the results today of a new study indicating that although the majority of higher education faculty/staff are engaged in their jobs, many are dissatisfied with the training they have received to not only perform their duties but also advance their career.  Less than 60 percent of faculty/staff agree that they are satisfied with the training they have received to perform their job and only 55 percent think their college/university provides effective on-the-job training.

“These low percentages suggest that colleges/universities should be spending more time and money to enhance the training and professional development opportunities they offer their faculty/staff,” said Chris Dustin, Executive Vice President of Sales and Consulting at HR Solutions.  “If colleges/universities neglect the training needs of their employees, they run the risk of fostering an environment of Disengagement and losing their top talent.”

The study also found that colleges/universities’ orientation programs for new hires are in need of major improvement.  Only 45 percent of faculty/staff believe the orientation for new employees is adequate.

The study analyzed data from HR Solutions’ Education Normative Database, which contains survey responses from nearly 21,000 faculty/staff at more than 35 colleges/universities throughout the U.S.
