Feb. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Knauf Insulation has published a free, 40-page design manual – Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Solutions – to support its market leading range of HVAC insulation products and also announced a number of product developments. Offering the widest choice of HVAC insulation products in the UK, Knauf supports its range with a strong package that includes an Industrial Products sales team dedicated to industrial projects, technical advice and next day deliveries to distributors.

Once known as Owens Corning, a name synonymous with HVAC insulation products, Knauf Insulation is one of the industry’s most experienced suppliers and its continual investment in product development and support speaks volumes for its commitment to it. “We firmly believe that the HVAC market demands a complete service offering and Knauf Insulation are uniquely positioned to provide this,” said Mike Hardaker, Knauf Insulation’s Business Development Manager.

Knauf offers HVAC designers an impressive range of products under the company’s well-known, high performance Crown® Glass Mineral Wool and, where appropriate, Rocksilk® Rock Mineral Wool brands. Glass mineral wool is generally accepted as the ‘material-of-choice’ for thermal insulation and offers definite benefits over both rock mineral wool and phenolic foam products.

Compared with rock mineral wool, glass mineral wool is about 33% lighter which makes it easier to install and gives the finished system less weight to carry. It’s also free of manufacturing residue; the absence of impurities contributing towards a much better thermal performance.

The benefits of using glass mineral wool instead of phenolic foam products are even more persuasive. It doesn’t react with copper or steel in the same way that phenolic products can if the protective coating applied to the insulation’s bore breaks down or becomes damaged. Jointing and detailing are both easier and more thermally effective as the wool ‘knits’ together or can be ‘scrunched-up’ if needed. With no ‘aging’ caused by the gradual loss of the insulation’s gas, glass mineral wool pipe insulation has a longer life expectancy and, being more durable, it can also better withstand damage.

But, despite these benefits, Knauf remains the UK’s only manufacturer of glass mineral wool pipe insulation!

Crown® Pipe Insulation range is made from non-combustible glass mineral wool with a nominal density of 80 kg/m< sup  >3< /sup > and covered with a bright, Class ‘O’, reinforced aluminium facing with a self-adhesive overlap. For pipes between 15mm and 100mm in diameter, pipe insulation is available in preformed sections that simply ‘snap’ onto the pipe making installation quick and easy, and their greater length – 1200mm rather than the usual 1000mm – helps speed up installation further still.

The product developments announced include a new, self-adhesive overlap on pipe sections to give a better seal; new, stronger packaging to protect against handling damage; taped box closures instead of staples for easier opening and – well, there’s more in the pipeline!

The new, 40-page design manual – Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Solutions – makes essential reading for designers, engineers and contractors involved with HVAC. Produced in collaboration with practising HVAC engineers, the heavily illustrated manual covers everything from design considerations through to product performance and selection and gives specification, construction and installation advice.
