HTC Will Not Set Up Its Own APPs Store for HTC’s Mobile devices

Feb. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- For many big-braned vendors of mobile devices, they tend to own more things related to their specific brand. Apple is a very ready example. It has its own operating system, own apps store and many particular stuff marked obviously with an “I”. These things are contributing significantly to the appeal of the Apple’s products to the customers. As a vendor of HTC, it would make more sense for to set up their own application store for their large number of customers globally. But HTC CEO, Peter Zhou, stated explicitely that they will not set up their own apps store but service platform.


At a 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) meeting, Peter Zhou demonstrated that they have no plans to establish an online application store for its smartphones and tablet PCs, but instead plans to establish a video service platform for mobile content of its own and applications from partnering telecom carriers, despite the fact that HTC has actively invested in mobile digital content suppliers. HTC has acquired London-based Saffron Digital, which specializes in digital multimedia delivery, and has plans to take a stake in US-based online gaming company OnLive.


According to Peter Zhou, Saffron Digital has developed an incredible expertise in mobile multimedia delivery. This ability to deliver optimized content in the future will be a key asset as content becomes more and more complex and localized. HTC is excited to be working with Saffron to increase our global service delivery capabilities and expertise.”
