| Housing proposal for former Brick Works in Tannochside, UddingstonResidents in Tannochside will have their chance to view plans and air their views on a proposed planning application (in principle) for the redevelopment of the former Brick Works on Old Edinburgh Road, Tannochside, Uddingston for residential use.
By: Ryden Property consultant Ryden has organised a public exhibition following instructions by Ibstock Brick Limited to commence pre-application consultation on the proposed redevelopment of the site. The exhibition will take place at the Tannochside Miners Welfare Club, 438 Old Edinburgh Road, between 3 - 7pm tomorrow (Tuesday 15 February) and also on Saturday 18 February between 10am – 2pm. The plans on display will show how the former Brick Works could provide around 150 residential units. The site, which extends to 5.7 hectares, has been on the market for industrial use since May 2009, but failed to attract a buyer. The buildings have now become obsolete and are not suitable for conversion, resulting in the only remaining feasible option being to demolish the existing buildings and redevelop the site. Taking into account that the nearby properties are mainly residential and educational, which generally are not compatible with industrial uses, housing is considered to be the most viable option for the site. Ged Hainey, associate at Ryden, said: “This important brownfield site failed to attract a buyer for industrial use and as such is now incompatible with the houses and schools that have been built around it. Redevelopment for residential purposes would significantly improve the environment by removing a very large and unattractive industrial building from a residential area. It would also resolve the on-going nuisance caused by seagulls congregating on the factory roof.” Residents can forward their comments on the proposed redevelopment to Ged Hainey at Ryden via email ged.hainey@ryden.co.uk or by post to Ryden, 130 St Vincent Street, Glasgow G2 5HF. All comments must be received by 14 March 2011. -ends- Notes to Editors Ryden is an independent commercial property firm operating a full-service practice.
