Motorola Xoom Beats iPad with Confirmed Price $800 Now

Just two days ago, Motorola Xoom, this first android 3.0 tablet to ship, was rumored to label an unbelievable high pricetag ever, $1200. Luckily, it is simply rumor and many Motorola Xoom will be very happy to know that. Now Motorola Xoom has become the first competitor of iPad in the real sense and will threaten the King place of iPad in tablet field. But the year of 2011 will see many more iPad competitors. Fierce batter of tablets will begin.

The price $800 for Motorola Xoom is confirmed by Motorola Mobility’s Chairman and CEO, Sanjay Jha. Jha confirmed pricing for a 32GB 3G Xoom will start at $799, which is a $70 premium over a similarly configured iPad. The Wall Street Journal reports that Jha met with a group of reporters in Barcelona during this year’s Mobile World Congress and spoke about the company’s upcoming Xoom tablet.  Jha didn’t discuss pricing for the WiFi only model, but according to CrunchGear,  it is expected to come out later this year with a price tag of $600, on par with Apple’s 32GB iPad with WiFi.

Apple’s not standing still either with the second generation iPad expected within weeks.  Once Apple takes the wraps off its latest tablet, it will be telling how big a gap, if any, remains between the Xoom and iPad. The Xoom packs in several features, such as dual cameras and Flash support, missing in Apple’s current iPad models so one could argue the extra price is not completely unwarranted.

“Being competitive with iPad is important. We feel that from the hardware and capabilities we deliver we are at least competitive and in a number of ways better than the iPad” Jha put.
