By: Hulafrog Donate Your Crayons, Have Ice Cream with Kid Entrepreneurs Time to rummage through those art boxes! Your kids can get involved and help Color the World, a charity started by two young brothers in South Brunswick that collects and donates crayons to kids around the world. You can drop off the crayons at Ricky’s Candy, Cones & Chaos any time starting February 18, but donate 12 crayons (1/4 lb) during the event’s launch weekend Feb 18-February 21, and your child will get a free kid-sized ice cream sundae on Ricky’s as a thank you for supporting the cause. (Thank You Ricky’s!) Not only that, your kids can meet and be inspired by the boys behind the charity, on Saturday, February 19 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The Chhokra brothers are 9 and 13 years old. Ricky’s Candy, Cones & Chaos will be an official collection site for Color The World so come back again anytime to help color the world. Donate Your Clothes, Toys, etc., Help a School in Uganda Help your kids go through their toys and clothes and choose some to donate to Sylvia’s Children, a Holmdel-based charity that helps support 1,000 children in Uganda by supporting their school. Sylvia, a local of Holmdel and NYU professor, started the foundation after a moving visit to Uganda in 2003. So hurry! Drop off your toys, clothes, household items like blankets, sheets, towels, at a participating local Starbucks before February 13 and everyone wins. Your kids will get a lesson in giving back, a school in Uganda will get much needed assistance, and mom gets a latte. Drop off locations include Starbucks in Middletown, Shrewsbury, Marlboro and Manalapan. Promote Literacy: Donate Books, See Toy Story 3 Take your kids to see Toy Story 3 at the Clearview Cinema in Red Bank on Saturday, February 26, but don’t come empty handed. Bring your gently used kids’ book and donate them to Bridge of Books, an organization that strives to provide an ongoing source of books to under privileged and at-risk children throughout NJ to encourage a love of reading and literacy. In addition to the movie, you kids can have their face painted, put on some temporary tattoos and participate in the silent auction. They will also have the opportunity to dedicate a book to a child. Tickets are $12.50 each. Doors open at 9:15 AM and the movie starts at 10:00 AM. You can buy tickets at River Road Books in Fair Haven or mail a check to BOB at PO Box 39, Rumson, NJ.
