Three Trapped in Dania Beach Accident

Feb. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Three people were trapped in their cars after an accident in Dania Beach on February 8th, 2011. The accident happened on I-95, specifically in the southbound lanes just south of Griffin Road (near Exit 22). The accident happened around 3:30pm.

It wasn't immediately clear how the accident had happened. Apparently two cars (a Scion and a Chrysler Sebring) interferred with eachother, causing each to slam into the highway's center barrier - the portion that divides the northbound and southbound lanes.

As a result of the impact with the wall, people in both vehicles were trapped inside their cars. Paramedics from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and Hollywood Fire Rescue freed the three people less than one hour after the crash. They were brought to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. A Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesperson said that a man and a woman in the Scion sustained serious injuries. A man and a woman in the Chrysler Sebring sustained only minor injuries. Florida Highway Patrol was continuing to investigate the accident.

As a result of the accident, there was major traffic backup in the area. As of 4:30pm, the two left lanes of I-95 South were closed. Traffic was said to have been backed up almost 3 miles, almost all the way to State Road 84.
