Feb. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Reputation is today's greatest asset a company can have; however it is a very sensitive aspect of any business. It usually takes long years to build up a company's reputation; however it takes only one wrong business move or uninformed employee to ruin the company's reputation. Many small and big companies are using public relations online day after day to make sure they are keeping their reputation growing. But one unhappy customer or bad press can really cause damage to the company's name and it is ten times harder to recruit new customers afterward.

Once the worst has happened and the business's reputation has been damaged, there is a need for setting up a crisis plan to rebuild lost trust of the customers and public. If the company does not have its own reputation management department or experts who can set up a plan, it is advisable to get professional advice and let a reputable reputation management company handle the matter quickly and effectively.

When do you need a reputation management crisis plan?

If your business name has been pulled down, either by the press or local communities. Even one dissatisfied customer or employee can damage a company's reputation enough to make them lose thousands of customers overnight. Companies can obviously negotiate with the other party for withdrawing the content; however they will have to work hard to compensate negativity with positive press and media results. Depending on the size of the problem a personalized crisis plan is needed, that can be created by reputation management expert companies.

The most common place bad reputation causes problems is through the Internet. It is because online posts, most particularly the comments and company reviews are not very often censored, still get high rankings in search engines. They are a great source of information for customers who need advice and guidance about a service or company. What they do first is to look for reviews and customer comments. If they find that negative reviews are created about the company they will very easily steer away and will never consider using the company's services.

To repair the online reputation of a business three simple steps have to be taken.

Number one is to try and eliminate the negative comments or posts and prevent them from coming up in search engines, or get sites to take them off. It is usually done by different online expert companies and requires specialist knowledge of the Internet as a media.

Number two is to compensate for negative posts and context associated with the company's name by creating high ranking positive comments and reviews. This also needs to be done according to a very careful plan, and taken into consideration how search engines bring up and group posts and comments, reviews. The plan also has to make sure it is not appearing as search engine spamming.

Number three is to protect the company's name and maintain business brand reputation by making sure there are no further forums that can cause negative effects on the company's reputation. Also a campaign has to be set up for the already achieved goals to be maintained.

All three of the above steps are a part of a reputation management crisis plan that can be obtained by companies that are experts in rebuilding companies' reputation online, and have a number of references and completed projects behind them.
