Feb. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- School-leavers in (area) are being given the chance to get up close and personal with London 2012 while boosting their academic skills thanks to a new scheme.
Applications are now being accepted for the London 2012 Get Ahead Apprenticeship Programme for school and college leavers which offers students leaving school or college the once in a lifetime chance to work for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).
This year’s programme will start in August and run through to September 2012 and successful applicants will be given a thorough two week induction, followed by the chance to try out different work areas aimed at giving a taste of at least two different aspects of what LOCOG do.
Once youngsters have found out what goes on in departments such as commercial sponsorship, technology, games services, culture, ceremonies, education, human resources and brand marketing, the trainees will work to select an area which suits them the best.
As well as learning new skills from world-class people, the trainees will study at a local college in order to gain a recognised NVQ qualification.
Tom Clift, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership manager for the 2012 Games, said: “This is a great opportunity for young people in our region to get a first-hand experience of what it is like to be involved on the frontline of organising the world’s biggest sporting event.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved with London 2012 at the very highest level, while also earning an extremely worthwhile academic qualification, and we would encourage as many youngsters as possible in (area) to apply in order to avoid missing out.”
The deadline for the Get Ahead School Leavers' Programme set for 28 February. For more information visit www.london2012.com or email getahead@london2012.com.
