With the forthcoming Olympics Sailing events taking place in the South West next year, two ambassadors for Destination South West will be making sure that the cruise market knows of the record breaking welcome that awaits it in UK South West ports.

Feb. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- The cruise market is an increasingly important one for the South West in 2011 with all eyes looking towards the UK and the forthcoming Olympic Games in just 18 months time.  The South West is poised to play a particularly significant role with the Olympic and Paralympics Sailing events staged at Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour and two ambassadors for Destination South West will be making sure that the cruise market knows of the record breaking welcome that awaits it in UK South West ports.

Falmouth’s Port Operations Director and Chair of Destination South West, Mike Reynolds and Portland Port’s Commercial Manager, Ian McQuade, will be representing Destination South West at the 2011 Cruise Shipping Miami Conference from the 14 – 17 March.

This is the largest annual international conference and exhibition serving the cruise industry and draws more than 10,000 attendees and nearly 1,000 exhibiting companies from over 119 countries to Miami Beach, Florida, USA.

Ian McQuade said: “This conference is the world’s most important and largest annual meeting for the cruise industry. I am looking forward to attending for the fourth consecutive year and hope it is as successful as the previous years.”

Mike Reynolds commented: “Destination South West was the first UK regional cruise marketing initiative to attend this conference under the Cruise UK banner in 2002. It is important to attend to maintain connections in the industry and to make new ones. This is the eighth time I have attended and we are aiming to break a few records ourselves this year by talking to more industry players than ever, ensuring that we remain a key destination for cruise tourism.”

Destination South West actively promotes the Region to ensure that the South West continues to attract high profile cruise ships to its ports. Partners include ports, local government authorities, tourist attractions, and other organisations with an interest in the cruise industry.
