Jan. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- St. Anthony Main Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota plays host to Sit For Something's first fundraising event February 15, 2011 with all proceeds benefiting the School of Rock Scholarship Fund.

Musicians and music-fans alike will enjoy the theatre viewing of  It Might Get Loud, a documentary on the electric guitar from the point of view of three significant rock musicians: U2 guitarist the Edge, Jimmy Page, founding member of Led Zeppelin and Jack White of the White Stripes.   Hollywood producer Thomas Tull who “is a longstanding fan of electric guitar music, thought it would be interesting to bring together three such contrasting masters of the art and record what happened,” explained the Sydney (Australia) Morning Herald when the film first debuted in 2009. And as the movie’s tagline promises, the movie reviews agree, It Might Get Loud  “might not affect the way you play guitar, but it will change how you listen.”

Non-profit Sit For Something is the brainchild of Jeremy Haberman.  Jeremy and his wife went to Lake Calhoun one day for a walk only to discover the walking path was closed for a fund-raising run.  Jeremy said to his wife, "I'd like to contribute but I hate to run.  Why can't I raise money for a good cause by just sitting?  Why do I have to run?"  Thus was the genesis of Sit For Something.

“If you feel the same,” said Haberman, “then this is the perfect way for you to contribute to a great cause and have a terrific night out.”

Haberman continued, "Sit For Something  uses movie theaters to raise money for good causes. Our current focus is education. We make fund raising simple, fun and effective for schools and academic organizations.”

We’re thrilled that Sit For Something has selected School of Rock’s Scholarship Fund as the first recipient of their efforts,” said Megan Rousey, General Manager of the St. Paul School of Rock. “About 15% of our students rely on our scholarship fund to be able to afford to attend School of Rock,” explained Ashley Luedke, Eden Prairie School of Rock General Manager. “Some only need a little assistance while others rely 100% on the Scholarship Fund.  We don’t want to turn any child away due to cost so every dollar raised for our scholarship fund is critical to our ability to continue to serve all of our students.”

School of Rock is an after-school music program for kids 8 – 18 years old.  With three locations in the Twin Cities, students learn guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocals through rock and roll cover music.
