i have owned this Emerson AM/FM CD player for about 3 years. I have the later model with the actual LCD track indicator. The unit has performed flawlessly for me personally since the day I took it from the box. It is not a high end system but for that money, I give it 5 stars and would give it 6 when they were allowed. The sound quality is about what believe hear from a good old model some tube radio. Clean and clear with enough volume. For batteries, it needs 6 C cells. I bought C cell to AA cell adapters and now have been using rechargeable AA batteries with that since day one. The batteries last an excellent while between charges. It comes with an AC power cord and works well with either power source. The AM in addition to FM radio sections are both good. The AM section is sensitive and picks up lots of stations. The FM is a little less sensitive but gives good reception since there are actually so many stations around now. The system is simple to use and is pretty rugged. Mine has survived many hard bumps over the years. The CD player seriously isn't prone to skipping. You have to bump it pretty hard to secure a skip. I use this radio every day including the CD player. I am in fact playing a CD on it now as i will be typing. It plays all commercial CD's and also CD's burned using CD-R Music and CD-RW hard disk drives. This Emerson is a winner. Because of it's age, I am going to buy different person before they become extinct. The unit is not stereo but that is the plus for me because it is also not the standard ugly round buxom boom box style you always see in the local store. It is small, light excess weight and dependable. I would recommend it to anyone wanting an authentic radio/CD combo but does not want to sling around a 10 pound portable stereo technique and wants reasonable quality sound. I intend to get another one.
