Sainsbury’s select Harland Simon for Temperature Monitoring

Harland Simon is pleased to announce it has won a contract to supply Sainsbury’s with the latest temperature measuring technology to remotely monitor its food and beverage storage devices across the company’s entire retail estate.

Jan. 13, 2011 - PRLog -- Sainsbury’s chose Harland Simon and the AeroScout temperature tag to ensure it maintains the highest levels of food safety and complies with all current food safety standards. This contract award followed six months of successful trials monitoring a range of storage devices in several retail locations. Harland Simon will now start the main roll out of the AeroScout T5 Wi-Fi enabled temperature tags to over 1000 of Sainsbury’s stores and petrol filling stations.  The use of a Wi-Fi enabled tag has allowed Sainsbury’s to maximise utilisation of their existing infrastructure to provide an economic and efficient solution to company wide temperature monitoring.
The AeroScout temperature tag is a small electronic radio frequency device fitted with a temperature sensor that regularly transmits a tag message containing the real time temperature reading and a unique ID number. Accuracy of the tag is +/- 0.5°C and installation is extremely simple, merely requiring the tag to be attached at a suitable location within the storage device or room.  The tag message is transported via the local wireless network to a central data collection point where monitoring software analyses the data and instantly reports any irregular temperature readings. If a fault is identified the corrective actions can be quickly taken minimising food waste and ensuring consumer safety. The data can also be stored for trending, reporting and retrospective analysis.
John Holman, for Sainsbury’s Engineering, said: “This is cutting edge technology that will free up our colleagues time and enable them to concentrate on delivering great service to our customers. It will also help to reduce food waste, something that is crucially important for our business.”

Rob Watson, Sales Director for Harland Simon added “We are delighted that we have been awarded this contract to supply the AeroScout active radio frequency temperature (RFID) tags and we look forward to working with the Sainsbury’s project team to complete this project  early 2011”.
