Midland travel firm indicates recovery for economyA leading Midland business travel firm has suggested that strength is returning to Britain’s economy after recording promising financial results for the end of the year.
The business travel specialists has seen turnover leap by almost 25 per cent in the year to date while some months have shown more than 50 per cent compared to the same month last year. And Guy Dunwoody, a director of TMG Corporate, said he believed the results were a positive sign for the economy as a whole. “In the past, the business travel sector has acted as a barometer for the economy and we are hopeful this will again be the case,” he said. “We were the first sector to feel the effects of the recession, and were also the first to come out of it, so we are hopeful our strong finish to 2010 is an indication that 2011 will be more positive for business.” TMG is now planning to expand its workforce with the appointment of up to five new travel consultants in the next few months. “There is no question that we are seeing a significant return to companies looking abroad for business,” he said. “We have noticed a considerable increase in bookings on scheduled airlines and a move away from the no-frills carrier. “Likewise, the long haul routes are proving increasingly popular and the emphasis on the Far East and to South American countries such as Brazil, would indicate to us that export markets are opening up again. “There is, at the moment, a shortage of seats on some of these routes and that is a problem for us. “We speak to airlines constantly and this trend appears to be reflected across the industry which is very good news for us, the travel trade and the economy. “We intend to take on new consultants but, as with everyone else in all sectors, uncertainty of market is a potential problem with the rise in VAT and expected public sector job cuts.” Media enquiries: Pete Squires Advent Communications 2 Edison Building Electric Wharf Sandy Lane Coventry CV1 4JA Tel: 024 7663 3636 http://www.advent- # # # Advent Communications is a well-established public relations consultancy based in Coventry.
