The rate of autism has reached the level of a public health crisis. The latest report indicated 1 out of every 110 American children are effected by autism, 1 in 70 boys. This number is staggering, that is a 57% increase since the last study was conducted over four years ago. The latest study conducted by the Centers For Disease Control was in 2006 and if the latest reports are any indication the next study, numbers will climb even higher.

These findings should get everyone's attention. Some feel that if there child or grandchild hasn't been diagnosed then they are insulated from this wildfire disease called autism. The truth is, everybody is affected, when you have a disease that is on the rise to this degree with no cure in site. What makes this even more frightening is it attacks our youth, our future.

What can you do? You can help raise awareness in your local community. One way is by participating in autism fundraisers. A simple run, walk are great ways to raise money and awareness. I have heard some people say well I am not in very good shape. Please don't let that stop you! Participants come in all shapes and sizes, they bring they dogs, their stroller and walk and push and pull the whole family. I have never heard anyone give of their time in awareness event and say they wish they would have stayed home and watched television.
