The first scientifically controlled studies on Cat’s Claw were performed by Klaus Keplinger, in the 1970’s.   His work eventually led in the early 1990’s to marketing of several extracts of cat’s claw.  He stated that the plant is exceptionally useful in general stimulation of the immune system and in multiplying the defensive strength of the organism.  In 1998, independent Peruvian Researchers demonstrated that a whole extract of Cat’s Claw increase immune function in rats at a dosage of 400mg/kg.

Today, Cat’s Claw is reported to boost immune function, as in all over tonic and preventative to stay healthy, for arthritis and inflammation, for bowel and colon problems, and as a complementary therapy for cancer.  Cat’s Claw is said to contain the alkaloids rhynchophylline, immunostimulant, hirsutine, and mitaphylline, which have demonstrated hypotensive and vasodilating properties.
