GMac paired with Ryder rival Mahan

Dec. 31, 2010 - PRLog -- Graeme McDowell will be reunited with Callaway Diablo Octane Tour Driver in the PGA Tour's season opener, the Tournament of Champions.





Northern Ireland's McDowell won the decisive final Ryder Cup singles match against the American, sealing a dramatic victory for the European team.



Delicately poised at 13½ - 13½ on the final day of competition, Mahan trailed McDowell by three after 11 holes, but rallied to 1-down with Callaway Diablo Octane Tour Driver  to play.



Needing just half a point to retain the trophy for the United States, Mahan lost ground on the 16th after a confident 12-foot birdie putt from McDowell found the cup. A par on the 17th from McDowell put all the pressure on the hapless American, who duffed a greenside chip to hand the trophy to the Europeans.



The Tournament of Champions, which hosts an elite field of tournament winners from 2010, will see the pair reunited at Kapalua in Hawaii.



"As a Callaway Diablo Octane Tour Driver fan, one of the most compelling moments of 2010 was their final-day match up during the Ryder Cup," said tournament director Nancy Cross. "To have these two paired together for the start of the season... well, we couldn't have scripted it better."



Other pairings at the Tournament of Champions include 2003 winner Ernie Els with Australia's Jason Day, and McDowell's Ryder Cup team-mate Francesco Molinari teeing off with Australia's Adam Scott.



The final pairing of the Callaway Diablo Octane Tour Driver sees defending champion Geoff Ogilvy of Australia against FedEx Cup winner Jim Furyk.



The $7.2 Tournament of Champions will be played from January 6-9.
