Dec. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Not everyone knows how to make a garden look pretty and stay healthy.  Growing a pretty and healthy garden is easy when you have the right resources and information.  No matter the type of plant, flower, herb or vegetable you can find ideas and information about what to grow in your garden.  Go to magazines and gardening books to find information from the pictures that are available.  For information about preparing, planting and maintaining a garden consider your local gardening TV program.  A simple walk through your neighbourhood will give you inspiration as you see what your neighbours have done with their lots.  When it comes to completing the work and getting ideas talk to friends and relatives to see what has worked, what hasn't and whether they can help you. Gardening blogs and websites are great places to go for help and advice.  When you encounter an unexpected problem visit your local garden centre for help..

Spend some time planning out the design of your garden once you have some ideas down on paper.  Depending on what you plan to use the garden for will impact your design .  Thinking of design also means you need to consider what will easily grown in your climate.  Take into consideration the type of soil and drainage you have to work.  A good design plan is realistic, cost effective and flexible.  You should consider whether you want to plant a small garden patch or redesign your entire front or back yard.  Do you need to use aggregates and stone?  Will your design require you to purchase sod, grass seed, rocks or flagstones?  Is mulch or soil necessary? Will your design require you to add a water feature like a pond or waterfall? If you plan out what you want to do ahead of time it will be easier for you to cost out your ideas and have a goal in mind before you start to buy the materials you need..

For any project budget is always important to consider and this is no different when it comes to gardening.  Before you decide to start a gardening job set a realistic budget. Not only do you want to make a budget you also want to stick to it.  Try to find plants on sale in order to stay within your budget. Check weekly flyers for your local garden centres and purchase items that are on sale.  It is expensive to replace unhealthy plants though so don't sacrifice quality for cost.  Some unhealthy plants can also introduce diseases into other places in your garden and spread quickly to other plant varieties, which can be a costly error.  You need to balance budget with quality, healthy plants..

Once you start looking for gardening tips you will start finding them everywhere.  Ensuring that you choose easy to maintain plants is a smart idea.  You can suppress weeds in your garden by choosing ground hugging plants.   Looking for plants that are weed resistant will make gardening a little easier.  Colour in your garden is always really nice to have but sometimes colourful plants require too much maintenance.  Planting containers, boxes and pots are a great alternative to adding colour to your garden.  Another way to spruce up the look of your garden is by completing border edging which will keep invasive plants in line while making your garden edges look neat.  You can cut down on lawn maintenance by replacing part of the grass with stones or gravel and then planting borders around these areas.  Keep your plants healthy by getting them ready for dry spells all you have to do is mix water strong granules into the soil.  You don't have to be an expert to keep your garden beautiful and healthy.
