Dec. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- China has pledged to restrict Internet phone services — a move that could affect thousands of businesses and individuals making cheap calls via web-based communications companies such as Skype.

“We realize with the relevant authorities in a campaign to crack down against illegal immigrants Voice over Internet Protocol telephone,” said Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in a circular published online earlier this month above.

In summary, which did not offer details or a timetable for the closure of the crackdown on “illegal” services, the Ministry of the phone to inform citizens of violations.

Beijing Morning Post on Thursday, however, said Vice Minister Xi Guohua as saying that the government was permitted only major Chinese telecom operators to offer telephony services on the Internet, connecting phones and computers.

Communication between computer (PC-to-PC) are open to all providers, Xi said. This means that some services provided by the PC to phone companies, including Skype, which are popular in China because of its low rates compared with telecommunications companies in the country, could be banned under new rules the department.
