Dec. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- MORRISTOWN, NJ - New Jersey Chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM NJ), the premier networking organization for senior IT executives, will host a January presentation titled Mentoring, Building People Capability in a Learning Environment, which explores the merits of mentoring as a strategic career move based on ongoing challenges in the job market.

Presenter Ron Hadley, head of talent management at Novartis, says mentoring has received much more attention in recent years.  His presentation will discuss the link between what he calls “the new value proposition” at work and a mentoring culture. Trends have pushed the core of an employee’s value focus from “competence” in 1990s to “commitment” in the 2000s to “contribution” now and in the future, Hadley says.

"Economic issues have changed expectations at work for finding purpose and meaning,” Hadley said. “Folks who you identify as high potential are getting increasingly frustrated and beginning to look for new opportunities. But having a close friend at work is a strong retention lever – and a good mentoring program will hopefully achieve this.”

Hadley will also discuss three mentoring formats – one-on-one mentoring, peer mentoring and group
mentoring, and explore logistics and resource requirements including technology assisted options and review best practices in mentoring.

SIM NJ membership is open to senior information executives in private or public sector organizations who are corporate/division heads of an information services organization or responsible for information systems and technology.
