Dec. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Creating a beautiful garden isn't easy for everyone, especially for people who don't have a green thumb.  With all the information and knowledge available at your fingertips anyone can find out what they need to know to grow a healthy garden.  There is lots of information out there about planting vegetables, herbs, flowering plants, annuals and perennials. Your local garden centre will provide you with great sources of information and help for your garden.  If you have friends and relatives who have a knack for gardening you can ask them for ideas and help.  Read gardening books and magazines to get inspiration for the design of your garden.  Also, you can take a look at gardening TV shows which will not only give you ideas and inspiration but they can give you tips and information about how to grow a beautiful, healthy and green garden.  See what works for your neighbours (and what doesn't) and then make decisions about the types of plants to grow that you know can be successful in the soil and climate you have.

Once you have your ideas down on paper you need to put together a design.  It is important to have clear goals and know what you plan to use your garden for.  Think about the size of project you want to tackle.  Will you be planting a small garden space or redesigning the entire area?  What types of materials do you need - aggregates and stones, rocks, sod, grass seed, soil or mulch? Will you be adding water features like a fish pond or waterfall? Before you go ahead consider what will easily grow in your climate.  Consider the drainage on your property as well as the soil you have to work with.  No matter your plans, try to keep your design versatile, cost effective and realistic.

You need to plan your budget before you begin any new gardening project.  A realistic budget is necessary before you start on any type of gardening project, big or small.  You have to stick to your budget in order for your gardening plan to be a success.  Staying on budget may mean shopping around to find as many deals as possible.  Look for sales and weekly flyers at your local garden centre in order to find deals.  It is important that you don't let cost affect the quality of plants that you buy.  Make sure that the plants you get, whether on sale or not, are healthy.  You may need to replace unhealthy plants which will cost money in the long run for you to replace.  Other healthy plants in your garden can be affected by one unhealthy plant that can spread disease throughout your garden.  It is critical that you purchase healthy plants while remaining on budget.

You can find garden tips all over the place once you start looking.  Purchasing plants that are weed resistant will help you to lower your labour and maintenance.  Choosing ground hugging plants is a great way to suppress weeds naturally.  If colourful plants require too much maintenance then perhaps you want to consider adding colour to your garden by using colourful planting boxes, pots and containers.  You can keep invasive plants under control and your garden looking neat and clean by using border edging. Preparing your plants for dry spells will help keep them healthy.  To make your lawn easier to maintain consider replacing part of it with hardwood decking, gravel or paving and then planting plants along the edges.  There are a number of ways to make your garden beautiful and healthy..
