Transform your thinking to transform your life

Dec. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- On an mp3 rendering of her newest book, Cheryl Donovan, the 44-year-old Houston-area author who has been praised by book reviewers for her down to earth tell it like it is conversational style, reads from her book "Women What in Hell are You Thinking Now: Transform Your Thinking to Transform Your Life" her latest project.

It's a literary rendering aimed at helping people transform themselves in such a way that they experience the abundant life they were intended to have. "We don’t live in the glory of our divine placement. We personify an outward appearance of happiness, while living in pure hell on the inside. To the naked eye we seem joyful, courageous and in control while on the inside we’re scared little girls wishing somebody anybody would rescue us. We need to take our lives back. God wants to restore us. He wants to reconstruct what’s been broken down. What looks like trash in your life can be recycled and bring about reformation.. . . ," Cheryl reads.

Donovan identifies the strongholds in our way of thinking that keep us from living victorious lives.

"You are pregnant with purpose, pregnant with greatness. Allow the baby to be born. Don’t permit the enemy to abort the baby. God has deposited something great on the inside of you and it’s time for your delivery!" Donovan reads.

" 'God has a big life for you, one that has peace, joy, and wholeness. His plan includes love and value, purpose and fulfillment, provision and supply. Whatever has caused you to be broken, the areas in your life that aren’t working or are ineffective, the areas where you feel powerless, doing nothing and going nowhere, God wants to put them back together again! But you can’t get to the upper level when you’re stuck on the ground floor.” Donovan continues to read.

Some listeners will say later that they were astounded by the emotion and sincerity of Donovan's voice as a writer. Depending on who's listening, to “Women What in Hell are You Thinking Now” -- you could be talking about a best friend or that girl down the street, or even yourself the bottom line is you have to change the way you think about yourself and your situation. You have to look at the glass half full and not half empty, says Donovan, women or men who are wrestling with the vicissitudes of life can effectuate change if they want to.”

Often, she says, the people she's speaking to in her newest book don't feel they belong. They feel left out, cheated, frowned upon by society as a whole. Donovan says her book explores the relationship between thoughts, words, and ultimately actions. The truth, she believes, is that people need to look inside themselves for the change they want to see.

“You can't rely on the government, your family, or anyone else it's just you and God otherwise there's a lot of room for complication, contradiction and ambiguity."

At the end of the recorded reading, Donovan explains her book was influenced by not only her own life but the lives of the countless women she advises everyday. She was also influenced by the scripture that says “so a man thinketh so is he.” This simply means “garbage in garbage out” If you fill your mind with positive, uplifting, empowering thoughts then those thoughts will translate into words spoken in positive affirmation over your life, those words will then in turn translate into positive actions that transform the way you live.

Donovan says the title came to her as she began to think about all the hellish situations people find themselves in. Most of the issues are a direct result of a confused way of thinking about oneself or others.

Donovan says she just shudders at the idea of one group of people explaining themselves to another group of people, who explain themselves yet again, wondering whether anybody will ever "get" them, wondering why they can't just exist as the people God made them to be instead of something or someone else. The whole idea behind the book is for people to live their lives on purpose the way God intended. Not fitting in to anyone else's plan but His.

The book is meant to challenge the status quo to be confrontational if you will, Donovan said. " Too many people are living their lives for eveyone else, people pleasing.  A lot of them feel marginalized in one way or another. They don't really know how to get out of the rat race they call life. This book will give them some practical tools to use in the transformation process."

Donovan's personal story of transformation started early in life. She became pregnant at the age of sixteen and endured an abusive marriage. Bombarded by societies idea of what she would become, a welfare recipient draining governmental programs, Donovan decided not to listen to the negative commentary and chose instead to see the situation in light of what God had to say about her.

“ When the world said I was a loser, God said I was more than a conqueror. When the world said I wouldn't accomplish anything God said I could do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Every obstacle in my life that was meant for my demise turned out to work in my favor! I thought only about the good and learned from the bad. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world!”

Recounting her experience, "I hear so many stories about women who make stupid decisions, see what's coming and stubbornly trudge forward thinking that something will be different this time" she says, I'm aware that we live in a world where sometimes women have only bad choices to make but we don't have the luxury of wallowing in our own mess. At some point we must take responsibility for our actions, stop blaming others, and move forward."

Donovan says she could have chosen to  have a pity party about her “ex” not paying child support or about not being able to receive public assistance because her parents made too much money, but instead she believes these are the best things that could have happened to her because it taught her to be resilient, determined and most importantly prayed up.

Critics have called her writing heartfelt and to the point. Others revel in the fact she uses biblical wisdom and practical teaching to guide and inspire the reader to a place of purpose. Elissa Gabrielle chose Donovan's story for “The Triumph of My Soul and Cheryl Pullins plucked another for the 2010 collection of “Victorious Living for Women”

Donovan, who is an evangelist, talk show host, and highly sought after conference speaker is expecting “Women What in Hell are You Thinking Now: Transform Your Thinking Transform Your Life” to be released March 2011.

After completing the recording, Donovan picks up a picture to be used on the cover of her new book and she thinks about the journey she's on. She reflects on the fact that God knew there would be a message in her mess. She understands her mission well to help others identify the strongholds in their lives and tear them down with the help of the creator.
