Kid’s nowadays are often preached to believe that “if it seems too good to be true, then it usually is.” Well one group of young musicians from the state of Connecticut never really took that mantra to heart. The Goonies, a hip-hop/pop/futuristic funk duo that performs with a live rock band never saw the dream of making it in the music industry as an impossible feat. When Julian “Juice” Ross (Rapper/Producer) and Michael Minelli (Singer/Songwriter) met in early 2009 they had no idea they’d be embarking on a musical journey as demanding as this one. But it was something that both had dreamed of their entire lives and they knew that they wouldn’t stop for anything until it turned into reality.

A lucid dream is simply defined as “a dream in which one is aware they are dreaming and can control what happens in the dream.” That’s how they want their album to be portrayed, and that is exactly what they plan to do, when on January 11th, 2011 (1-11-11) they release their first official album entitled, “Lucid Dreams.” This 11 track compilation (with two live band bonus tracks) consists of every type of song that could be associated with the hip hop/pop genre of music. From the smooth flow and melting melody of their lady killer “Starlight,” to the bass knocking, metaphor-filled “Head Blown,” this album is truly a “front-to-back” classic. The first single off of the album, “The Life of a Dreamer” is already beginning to get radio play in the northeast and along the Atlantic coast, and it has created a strong foundation to prime their expansion campaign across the country.  Juice and Minelli have really proved with this album that they are ready to take their music from local ears to global lives. Minelli explains, “This album is something like you’ve never heard before. Any boundaries that were up, we broke. Any limit we could have tested, we did. All in hopes to paint a picture and show the emotion and passion that went into our first album.” When a chosen number of fans were introduced to a sneak peek of the album a few unbelievably strong words popped in their heads: epic, monumental, life-changing, and by no means are any of those words a stretch. When Juice was asked if he had any advice for children who are looking to pursue a music career, or any career for that matter he replied, “Always follow your dreams no matter what people tell you. The greatest accomplishments we have made in this world have come from people believing they can do the impossible. What the mind believes, the body can achieve.” And achieve they surely will.

The Goonies are a relatively new band that hasn’t even been together for a full year, yet have already accomplished so much. They have performed at events alongside Asher Roth, Chiddy Bang, Little Feet and even rock legend Buddy Guy, among others. They have rocked the stage at many prestigious charity events, such as The 11th Annual Joslin Gala and The Inaugural Ray Allen Golf Tournament. But they didn’t start their musical endeavor playing significant events such as these. They had to start somewhere, and for The Goonies it was the same as everyone else; at the bottom. They started out playing house parties and small bars then eventually moved up to medium sized bars and clubs. As they gained new fans at every stop, their fan base grew exponentially and in just a few months, their hype caught the eye of an independent record label based in Boston, Massachusetts called New Music Chronicles (headed by Shannon Allen, wife of future NBA Hall of Famer Ray Allen and Glen Parish, former member of Hip-Hop pioneers Heavy D and The Boyz).  Then, fully backed by NMC, they packed the biggest club in their capital city of Hartford for their “What’s Poppin in the 90’s” mix tape release party. Over the time that the two teams have created and developed this uncanny bond, The Goonies and New Music Chronicles have provided each other with all the right tools to make a real impact on the ever growing business that is the music industry.

From their hometown of Connecticut, across the northeast into Boston and Rhode Island and even down to the heart of Tennessee, The Goonies are making it known that come January 11th 2011, your iPod should absolutely have one album in it, “Lucid Dreams!” Now that you know a little about the new age musicians named The Goonies, check out the links below and see for yourself why these guys have made such a substantial impression on the ears of so many people already.
