Dec. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Comme des Garçons is an avant-garde Japanese brand, with a unique, innovative and full of highly experimental creations from season to season. The materials often are draped around the body and featured frayed, unfinished edges along with holes and a general asymmetrical shape. It is a challenging concept of beauty that creates an uproar at Paris fashion show where journalists calling their clothes 'Hiroshima chic'.
Comme des Garçons was founded by Rei Kawakubo in Tokyo, 1969. Today it is one of fashions most important brands with numerous lines designed by Rei, Junya Watanabe and Tao Kurihara including Comme des Garçons Shirt and Comme des Garçons Play. Fashion Designer Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garcons, was born in Tokyo in 1942.  Rei has studied fine arts and literature and she conveys her ideas verbally to her patternmakers. After graduation Kawakubo worked in a textile company and began working as a freelance stylist in 1967. Although Rei Kawakubo founded and opened the business in 1969, the company was not officially established until a few years later, in 1973. In Japan, the business became triumphant in the fashion industry in the mid-70s and added to their product line, for men, in 1978. In 1981, there was a show in the Paris location, which was a first appearance of Comme des Garcons and its leading fashion in “distressed” and “black” materials used in the clothing line. During the 1980s, this line of apparel frequently had a shattered appearance to it.
In 2006, a new idea arose, which was “yssup”. The idea represented clothing and the various ways we introduce ourselves to the “sinep. Comme des Garçons have partners with various other labels over the years including Levi's Converse All Star, Speedo, Nike, Moncler, Lacoste, Cutler and Gross, Chrome Hearts, Hammerthor, S. N. S. Herning, Louis Vuitton and many others. Comme des Garçons and H&M collaborated on a collection which was released in the fall of 2008.
Since the opening of the company, there are now more than 12 boutiques and at least 200 merchants worldwide. One location considered high fashion in Tokyo (Aoyama) has flagship depots and one called “Place Vendome in Paris”, which is highly famous for its fashion line too. The business brings in annual revenue of approximately $150,000,000 (gross revenue). As of 2007, the business employed around 200 individuals.
