Verizon increases FiOs speed to 150Mbit/sec

Dec. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Verizon has started to release the service to consumers in 12 U.S states, adding to Columbia district (where FiOs is available). In November, 22nd 2010, Verizon said that small enterprises will be able to receive the service by the end of this year. Until now, this is the fastest service on FiOs with download speed of 50Mbit/sec and upload speed of 20Mbit/sec.

The service will be available for a majority of U.S households which have enough conditions for FiOs. It will be available as an independent service with the price of 194.99 USD/month when purchasing one-year agreement and Verizon’s wired voice service.

FiOs operates on “all-fiber-optic” network, allowing Verizon to provide faster speed than AT&T. AT&T’s fastest wired consumer service provides download speed of 24Mbps and upload speed of 3Mbps. At the beginning of 2010, Verizon performed an Internet connection which reached the 1Gbps speed in both two sides on FiOs network but it has not predicted when this service might be on sale.

However, FiOs is only available to about 12.5 million U.S households. Earlier this year, Verizon announced a plan that adding 1 million new households for FiOs. The company’s spokesman Cliff Lee said that the firm’s goal is to reach 18 million households.

According to a video introducing the service that Verizon posted to Youtube on Monday November, 22nd 2010, with the new service, consumers will be able to download a two-hour standard-definition movie in about 90 seconds, and upload 20 high-resolution holiday photos in about 20 seconds.
