Dec. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Singapore – Frost & Sullivan hosted the Next Generation Communication & Collaboration Summit on December 7, 2010 at the Suntec Convention Centre in Singapore. This one day summit saw industry players and subject matter experts coming together to discuss and evaluate some of the present and future challenges facing the Industry.

The summit opened to over 400 delegates with a presentation by Manoj Menon, Partner at Frost & Sullivan on the promise of Unified Communications (UC) where he elaborated on the state of the Unified Communications & Collaboration Market and trends that are defining the next generation of communications & collaboration.

The keynote address was delivered by Mike Tuohy, Director at Microsoft who discussed the current adoption pattern of Microsoft UC solutions before launching Microsoft’s new Office Communications Server solution. He detailed the next generation features and the larger Microsoft UC & Collaboration play before launching into a demo.

The forum advanced with a presentation from Aspect’s APAC and Middle East Regional Marketing Director and an executive dialogue on building innovation as a competitive advantage before breaking out into 3 track sessions – Unified Communications, Collaboration and Cloud.

The Unified Communications Track looked at the current state of the market, the adoption trends, opportunities in the market and the business case for UC. The Collaboration Track took a closer look at some of the audio, video and web technologies in the market, their market potential in Asia Pacific, and presented customer successes stories to better understand the explosive growth in this market while the Cloud Track looked at how enterprises are shaping the market dynamics in the cloud computing space and pushing the industry to a higher level of maturity.

The changing landscape, coupled with the global financial crisis and competitive market environments, have led to enterprises focusing on productivity to drive efficiency, collaboration to drive innovation within their enterprise and cost reduction through cloud services.

“The computing industry is preparing for a paradigm shift in the way computing is performed worldwide. There is a growing awareness among consumers and enterprises to access their information technology (IT) resources extensively through the Internet, a development broadly called ‘Cloud Computing’”, says Arun Chandrasekaran, Research Manager at Frost & Sullivan.

He adds, “The primary restraint for the adoption of cloud is the security and privacy issues. Customers are apprehensive about factors such as regulatory compliance, inadequate service level agreements, shared infrastructure (for public clouds), data storage issues, and unclear legal implications. In the absence of clarity on the aforementioned issues, most CXOs err on the side of caution and limit the usage of public clouds.”

The track sessions saw representatives from Frost & Sullivan, Aspect, Avanade, Chubb Insurance Group of Companies, Dell, Fairfax Business Media, HP, Microsoft, National University of Singapore, Plantronics, REHAU, Standard Chartered Bank, Tata Communications and Thomson Reuters presenting and participating in a dialogue session and panel discussions before concluding with technology demos.
