ASUCRP Represented on IJIS Institute Committee

Dec. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- Ashburn, Va., December 1, 2010. The IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security, announces the appointment of a representative from the Association of State Uniform Crime Reporting Programs (ASUCRP) to the IJIS Institute NIBRS/N-DEx Advisory Committee.

ASUCRP represents participants of the National Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. UCR data is collected either through Summary or the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) reporting methods on the local, regional, state, territorial, and national levels. Members of the Association collect and analyze crime data that is not available through any other source. Information collected under the UCR Summary Program defines crime levels throughout the United States. ASUCRP members are dedicated to providing accurate, timely, and complete crime related data and statistics to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the public.

The NIBRS/N-DEx advisory committee defines a role for industry and, in particular, IJIS Institute member companies in collaborating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and state-level agencies to improve, expand, and make viable the national incident-based reporting systems or the replacement thereto. It is the goal of the committee, through a close working relationship with the FBI, to assist industry in responding to the needs of state and local law enforcement agencies in meeting national incident-based reporting requirements. It is also the goal of this committee to encourage and arm industry with relevant information so that industry, working with state and local agencies, may increase knowledge and support of the program.

The appointment of an ASUCRP representative to the IJIS Institute’s N-DEx Advisory Committee will supplement the newly formed NIBRS Subcommittee staffing. This subcommittee focuses upon policy, activities, and technology as relates to the FBI UCR and NIBRS programs. It is envisioned that both organizations will profit from this collaboration and that the practitioner environment will benefit as well.

Bruce Kelling, the chair of the IJIS Institute N-DEx Advisory Committee, noted, “Our committee seeks ways to get industry involved in providing the right solutions to support state and local agencies in participating in and receiving benefits from national programs and standards. ASUCRP participation gives us that all-important state and local input that is essential to meeting our objectives.”
