In an effort to reduce accidents caused by drivers text messaging when they should be driving, one auto insurance company has introduced their own application for the Android phone. When the application is turned on it will automatically send a text message to your contact if they text you while you are driving. Users can create their own custom text message response, or they can use one of the several responses made available in the application. This is supposed to help consumers avoid the temptation of answering a text message while on the road. The only problem here is getting drivers to install and actually use this text messaging application. The auto insurance company may want to give some thought tracking those that actually use the application and giving them discounts. Teenagers are especially less likely to make use of a text messaging application because they might just be more concerned about answering a text message.

Either way this application was a great idea by the auto insurance company and is a good way to tackle one of the many driving distractions which cell phones provide. I think that in the future we really need to concentrate on integrating cell phones into the cars media system itself and increasing voice control capabilities. The text messaging Application is currently only available in the Android market, but a version is expected to be released for the iPhone and other phones sometime in the near future.
