Nov. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Swanbay, the media and mobile technology company, has announced that it has signed contracts with eight more mobile phone operators, increasing the number of consumers able to view free TV and video clips on their mobile phones by 66 per cent.

The deals, which span five countries, will bring the total number of mobile operators and aggregators that have signed up to Swanbay’s innovative service to ten and the number of mobile phone customers who have access to free, sponsored content to over 60 million.

Loop (India), Mojo3G (Thailand), MTNL (India), Telenor (Pakistan), True (Thailand), UMobile (Malaysia), VIBO (Taiwan) and Zong (Pakistan) are scheduled to launch their services before the end of 2010.  Hutchinson (Hong Kong), Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan) Ufone (Pakistan), Warid (Pakistan) and aggregator Netcore (India) all launched earlier in 2010.

Swanbay’s platform provides sponsored TV and video clips which mobile phone operators make available to their subscribers for free.  Furthermore, the operator receives a share of the advertising revenues for each sponsored clip viewed.

“Mobile phone operators are keen to reduce churn by providing customers with a wide range of free local and international video content including highlights from the world of sports, news, music, cartoons, fashion and movies,”  says John Haskins, Director of Sales for Swanbay.  “We already have consumers using the service and advertisers sponsoring the content. Early portal statistics across India, Pakistan and Asia show that once people have accessed the portals, over 50 per cent of consumers download and watch a video that starts with a short video pre role ad.”

Underpinning the compelling economic case is cutting-edge technology that delivers reliable, high quality video at impressive speeds.  In addition, the platform can be integrated with the operators’ technology within a few days and the content has been tested on thousands of mobile phones.

“The videos are of really good quality,” says Abhijit Saxena, CEO, Netcore Technologies, Swanbay’s content distribution partner in India. “This will be a big differentiator in this market.”

“We have the technology, the backing and the partners to continue to grow rapidly,” says John Haskins.   “We expect to sign deals with even more content providers, mobile operators and advertisers over the next few months.”
