| From Cabo to Cleveland - International Artist and Swimmer Craig Baskin says, "SAVE THE CLOCK TOWER!"Artist Craig Baskin, of Cabo, Mexico, whose colorful, large scale abstract paintings are inspired by his ocean swimming, created two paintings, to be auctioned, with 100% of the proceeds designated to restore the historic Clock Tower in Cleveland.
By: Diane A graduate of the school, Baskin was asked by Alumni Foundation President Eric Silverman to get invovled. "I remember the great statement that beautiful clock made in the city," said Baskin. "Because Cleveland sits on such flat terrain, the tall clock tower always stood as a beacon and I am honored to be asked to help in the restoration effort of this important landmark. We must preserve all important structures in the United States. This is our history." Craig Baskin's paintings sell in the $2,500-$15,000 range. Past major paintings by Baskin, created especially for non-profits, include works for Haiti, ERASE MS and the Stars and Stripes Foundation. Baskin was recently asked to paint the "BLUE" mural which will adorn the wall of the Boys and Girls Club Swim Facility, orginally funded by Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz and Jack Benny, in Palm Springs, California. He will be attempting a solo swim in the Sea of Cortez in March 2011 to raise awareness of charitable open water swimming events. As for the Clock Tower restoration, other notable alumni who have stepped forward to donate towards the $400,000 projected cost include Progressive Insurance Chairman Peter Lewis, Cablevision founder Charles Dolan and entrepreneur Joel Hyatt.
