GIRLS INC. OF SAN ANTONIO WELCOMES NEW PRESIDENT/CEO
Rhonda Williamson Hails From the City by the Sea and Brings an Ocean of Experience

SAN ANTONIO – November 16, 2010 – Girls Inc. of San Antonio marks a milestone this month, not only did Girls Inc. host a successful 6th Annual Girls Inc. Luncheon at the San Antonio Country Club, while honoring two prominent women in the philanthropic community, but ushered in new leadership to take the thriving organization to new heights.

Rhonda Wilson Williamson brings 10 years of experience in the field of women’s issues and over 15 years as a trainer and public speaker on domestic violence and gender stereotypes.  Williamson received her Master of Science in Secondary Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Communications at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, where she organized the Vagina Monologues.  Prior to her joining Girls Inc. of San Antonio, she was the Primary Prevention and Education Manager for the Women’s Shelter of South Texas in Corpus Christi.  Along with her lengthy professional record, Williamson’s community service included board membership and volunteer at the YWCA Corpus Christi for eight years.

Williamson admits that creating her network in the Alamo City will be a challenge, as she developed her professional contacts for the past 10 years in Corpus Christi, but Williamson is up for the challenge, which will take her to all four quadrants of the city.  “Coming from a domestic and sexual violence center, I’ve seen other girl and women-centric organizations focused on intervening with some of the terrible things that can happen to women.  Prevention is a relatively new concept in many of these areas.  Girls, Inc, however, has a 146 year history of giving girls the opportunity to be so much more than a pretty face, a victim of circumstance, or a statistic.”  As an organization that serves girls between the ages of 6-18 and inspires them to be strong, smart and bold, Girls Inc currently serves 1,750 girls annually via camps, nationally accredited programming and various community-wide events.  Williamson is working towards “increasing the number of girls we serve, offering Girls University in additional locations, expanding our program offerings to meet the needs of our community, and to increasing our visibility so every girl in San Antonio has the opportunity to be strong, smart, and bold.”

A meet and greet with Williamson is slated for Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 5:30 PM at Girls Inc. of San Antonio.  For more information, contact Anais Biera Miracle at abiera@chshel.org or 210.212.2598.
