Consumers in Dundee 'will benefit from free home insulation'

Nov. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- People living in Dundee might find their energy bills reduced this winter thanks to additional funding that will see free home insulation fitted to their properties.

Dundee City Council has received £250,000 from the Scottish government's £10 million initiative to make houses north of the border more energy efficient.

Joe FitzPatrick, Dundee West MSP, explained that families will benefit from lower outgoings and a smaller carbon footprint, but the cash "will also create and support employment for insulation manufacturers, installers and energy advisors".

Indeed, some annual fuel bills could be cut by approximately £50, which could contribute to a combined saving of £2 billion by 2020 for the whole of Scotland.

Mr FitzPatrick added that work carried out as part of this investment will build on that already delivered by the previous Energy Saving Trust scheme.

Meanwhile, residents of Dunbar and East Linton are already on their way to making savings as a result of a collaboration between Be Green and Energy Saving Scotland to install cavity wall and loft insulation, the East Lothian Courier reports.
