Nov. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- Today is fast becoming the era of the ‘digivores’, as modern technology dramatically changes the way we live and how we observe the world. Gone are the eras of the yuppies, hippies, computer geeks and greenies, giving way to the new technological age.

Digivores often gain formation before anyone else, as they surf the web and live through their iPhone, giving them a feeling of superiority over others.

Not only do their phones act as a communication tool, a camera, a torch and a provider of their favourite music, it has become much more.

A mobile phone network, in partnership with a trend forecasting company, the Future Laboratory, conducted a study, revealing that the use of mobile phones, with enlarged reality  apps, is about to explode, as it gives users a ‘completely immersive travel experience’.

The apps will provide everything from notifying you where you are through the GPS, to instantly translating a menu or a sign. You will be able to find out about an area through geo-tags posted by locals. Using a compass and the camera the iphone will provide location-based information through augmented reality.

Washington University is currently working on augmented reality, which will provide information on contact lenses, displaying it within your field of vision. A mechanic could receive information on a special pair of glasses, with information on how to fix the motor he is working on,displayed before his eyes.

When shopping you could match up prices, or learn information about a product, by simply pointing the smartphone at a barcode. You will get a wealth of information from the carbon footprint to the credentials of the manufacturer.

The iphone, say the manufacturers,is currently taking another quantum leap in connecting without words. If you shake the new phone to express an emotion, it will make a corresponding vibration on the phone of the person you want to communicate with.

"Contrary to the outdated view that smartphones are just for geeks, the increasing simplicity and affordability of smartphones means they are now being used by more and more people. Our latest research also shows they're even changing our social behaviour. Smartphones empower their users -- whether it's having the knowledge to fight your argument, find out the origins of the products you're buying, or the confidences to travel to places you’ve never been before -- and this is a freedom and knowledge that is now available to everyone,"said T-Mobile UK spokesman, Richard Warmsley .
