Oct. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- (Ottawa, ON) October 28, 2010 – The Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA) was pleased to present the Quality End-of-Life Care Coalition of Canada with the 2010 Balfour Mount Champion Award during today’s opening ceremonies for the 2010 Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Conference.
“Since its creation in 2000, the members of the QELCCC have dedicated their efforts over the last ten years to advocate for quality end-of-life care for all Canadians,” says Wendy Wainwright, President, CHPCA.
“The purpose of the Balfour Mount Champion Award is to celebrate and recognize contributions from Canadian individuals, companies and/or organizations who, through their actions, advance the mission and mandate of the CHPCA.  On behalf of the CHPCA’s Board of Directors, we are very pleased to present this award to the Quality End-of-Life Care Coalition of Canada for their contributions,” continues Wainwright.
The QELCCC is a network of over 30 national organizations with and interest in quality end-of-life care.  Focusing in the areas of advocacy, communication and public awareness, family caregiver support, professional education and research, the QELCCC has continued to show leadership for quality end-of-life care.
Most recently, the QELCCC released the Blueprint for Action: 2010 – 2020, a progress report measuring changes to end-of-life care in Canada over the past 10 years and sets priorities and makes recommendations for the future. The members of the Coalition feel that while some progress has been made a decade later, there is still much more to be done.
The QELCCC’s accomplishments, including the Blueprint for Action: 2010 – 2020, will be highlighted during the 2010 Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Conference from October 28th to 31st, 2010 at The Westin Hotel, Ottawa, Ontario, with workshops and poster presentations.
