Oct. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- If you’re an employer you’ll know the headache that employment contracts can represent, particularly at this time of year with an intake of temporary staff for the Christmas period on the horizon. Making sure you protect your interests is essential, particularly if you’re a smaller business and can’t justify the expense that legal advice can often entail. Fortunately, Simply Docs have an excellent selection of great value business documents including contracts and templates for immediate download. Completely editable and up to date, they are an invaluable resource for any firm needing to implement correct documentation and procedures at an affordable cost.

So many businesses employ staff on a temporary, zero hour or casual basis, and even more so with Christmas on the way. The importance of having the correct documentation in place, while still making sure you don’t fall foul of the law or overspend on the acquisition of the correct documentation is impossible to overstate.

Luckily, you needn’t to have a law degree or even an HR manager to understand and use employment documents from Simply Docs. The contracts are presented along with the information you need to use them, as the Zero Hour contract section demonstrates. To view these documents, simply browse to Employment Documents from the main site menu, then choose Employment Contracts. If you are hiring temp staff, then pay particular attention to the Zero Hours Employment Contract and Zero Hours Agency Staff areas.

Terms
When you employ temporary staff there are a number of considerations to factor in to their terms and conditions of employment with you, especially pertinent are those relating to sick and holiday pay. Using the right Zero Hours contract allows you to minimise and even eliminate many of the costs sometimes faced by employers unaware of their rights and obligations to non-permanent members of staff.

As and when
A Zero Hour contract is suitable in a situation where you do not want to guarantee the employee any minimum number of hours per week or month, but are planning to use them on an ‘on call’ basis. This means that you only need to employ the person as and when you need them, and when you don’t they simply don’t get any working hours from you.

Rights
Even though a Zero Hours contract means that the employee has no basic hours, they do have rights in terms of holidays. You are required to respect the Statutory holiday requirement for temporary employees, which means that they are entitled to 28 days holiday per year, including public and bank holidays on a pro-rata basis.

Issues
The Zero Hour employment contracts available from Simply Docs outline all of this and more. There are sections clarifying issues relating to duties, hours, pay, sickness, mobility, maternity/ paternity, pensions, grievance procedures, handbook and employment policies among other things. The contracts are designed to accommodate as many situations as possible while still giving you the scope to build in the particular requirements of your business.
