Ern Phang presents WHY Chairperson's Report

Oct. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- After being a director of Western Housing for Youth Limited (WHY) - http://www.westernhousingforyouth.net - and presenting the Chairperson's report over the last several years, Ern Phang will, for the last time, present the WHY Chairperson's report at the 2010 Annual General Meeting on 20 October 2010.

WHY is a not for profit organisation providing semi supported accommodation to young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and living within the Parramatta and Holroyd local government areas. WHY has been operating from offices around the Harris Park area for the last 30 years, but has recently moved to an office in Merrylands with the support of Holroyd City Council in recent months.

Ern Phang is the solicitor director of Phang Legal, a local Parramatta law firm http://www.phanglegal.com.au and practices mainly in the area of property law and conveyancing, commercial transactions and business law, corporate law and compliance, commercial and insurance litigation, elders and estates law, and notary public services.

Reflecting on his time with WHY, Ern Phang said "One thing that is NOT lacking in community organisations is the passion. People are passionate, and they are motivated by that passion and the dedication that they have for people and the local community. Understanding them, understanding the people they service is extremely important for anyone from a commercial background who wants to be involved as I have been.

"Being a volunteer director on the board of WHY and with other not-for-profit organisations has given me a valuable insight into the sector and the people who donate their time and other resources to supporting it.

"I have meet fantastic people and I've made great friends along the way. I've also learned a lot from it and from others. I've been challenged in my own perceptions and perspective and it's been a real eye-opener. I think it's also made me a better person and so it's an experience that I will never forget."
