Nevada State College to host Southwest Technology Showcase

Event to draw educators from four states and feature latest technology for schools

Oct. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- HENDERSON, Nev. – Beginning Nov. 4, faculty, administrators and students from colleges, universities and school districts in California, Utah, Arizona and Nevada will attend the Southwest Technology Showcase being held at Nevada State College.  The two-day event will showcase the latest in educational technologies designed to improve online instruction, student services, and faculty training.

Members of the media and general public are invited to attend any of the presentations on new technologies occurring on Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  A list of presentations can be found at: http://nln.nevada.edu/STS/program.html.

Many of the technologies that will be demonstrated at the Southwest Technology Showcase are already being used by Nevada State College as well as the Clark County School District.

Since its inception, Nevada State College has been at the forefront of incorporating technology into its educational experience.  All of the college’s courses have some online or technological element, such as online course chats, Internet-only classes and Web technology used live in the classroom.

Nevada State College president Lesley Di Mare has been a staunch supporter of using technology to further enhance the student experience and improve both academic and administrative programs.

“This event will provide a forum to share the latest innovations in media, web design, mobile computing, and interactive assessment to engage students and enhance the abilities of faculty and staff,” said Di Mare. “We are also pleased that Clark County educators will be in attendance and have the opportunity to learn about these technologies, many of which can be easily implemented into the classroom without a significant investment in new equipment.”

Di Mare expects close to 200 educators to attend the event from various higher education institutions including University of Arizona, University of Utah, Utah State University, College of Southern Nevada, California State University – Chico and City College of San Francisco.

Nevada State College is hosting the Southwest Technology Showcase in collaboration with various local partners, including the city of Henderson, the Nevada System of Higher Education, Bank of Nevada and Nevada State College Foundation, as well as the Southwest Blackboard Users Group, an independent users group of Blackboard Inc. education solutions.  Blackboard Inc.  works with more than 5,000 institutions, including Nevada State College, to increase the use and impact of technology on education.
