Internet Surfing … The hobby that became a habit...

Oct. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- I still remember the day when I connected to the internet for the first time back in 1996, I was just a kid with eyeglasses who loves computers, gaming and simple programming, back then I had just heard about the Internet, and its fantastic ability to connect people from all around the globe in almost no time, So you will never imagine my happiness when my dad told me that he was able to buy an internet connection registration to use it in his work, finally I am going to see that thing called  “The Internet” .

So while sitting beside my dad and my eyes were wide opened, he started his laptop, connected it to the telephone line, entered his credentials and clicked the connect button, you could hear the modem struggling to connect for almost 30 seconds then silence and finally the beautiful word “Connected”.

Back then and for almost 5 or 6 years later, surfing the internet or the world wide web was added to peoples hobbies list, so whenever you ask someone about how he/she spends his/her free time, they would tell you

“I like spending my free time reading, watching the TV or even playing football and ….sometimes I surf the internet”

Day after day the internet users started to increase rapidly, the WWW started to serve billions of users worldwide providing them with a vast range of information resources and services.

Life became much faster, New forms of human interactions were born, people started using e-mails, instant messaging, Blogs and internet forums to communicate, they started to use online shopping to buy anything, even auctions are done online now,  paying the bills, working remotely and from your own home, normal radio became internet radio, TV channels became youtube channels,….

As the list of activities that can be done using the internet is rapidly growing every single day, the list became endless, and spending time surfing the internet started to increase, it is no longer being used for sometime to complete your work or just to kill some of your free time having fun online, now you will find yourself using the internet almost all day long, working, chatting, playing games, reading the news, watching videos,….etc

No body can live now without the internet, we are all trying to be online as much as we can, using every single way to connect to it, you can connect to the internet using your laptop, mobile phone and even your game console (PS,Wii,…..), some developers even built virtual worlds inside the www for other people to virtually live in it !!!

Nowadays, when you ask people about their hobbies and how they like spending their free time, they will never mention “surfing the internet” as a hobby, because it already became an important part of their lives that they cant bare living without it.

And what was before just a hobby to waste some free time, became more of a daily habit that we can’t  let go.

Yet, there are times in life when you sit at your computer, open your internet browser then do nothing but staring at your monitor, watching the cursor blinking forever, thinking about nothing, your finger tips are lying there on the keyboard waiting for your commands to type the URL of an interesting website where you can spend some quality time and you are feeling so bored and need to do something other than work for a change.
