Asphalt General Designated as a 2010 Top 100 Minority Business

Oct. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Linda Cahow, President of Asphalt General has been named a 2010 Top 100 Minority Business® Enterprise Award winner.  Asphalt General is a Maryland-based general paving contractor for Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and the Baltimore-Washington corridor.  Chosen from nearly 5,000 nominations, Ms. Cahow’s company receives this distinguished designation which pays tribute to outstanding women and minority business owners in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.  The awards ceremony will take place at the Inn and Conference Center at University of Maryland University College in Adelphi, Maryland on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 5:30 PM.
      Linda Cahow, President of Asphalt General is delighted with the recognition.

       In addition, the Professional Women in Construction (PWC) Washington, D.C. chapter announced that Ms. Cahow is a recipient of a Top Woman of Achievement in Subcontracting honor.  The award recognizes career achievement, excellence in job performance, leadership and exceptional work on a project of the year.
       Nominations for both awards were based on peer submissions.
      Ms. Cahow was also one of only 15 accepted into and graduated from the Business Opportunity and Workforce Development (BOWD) program, a Twin State Partnership program with the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA), the State of Delaware’s Department of Transportation (DelDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration Office of Civil Rights (FHWA).  The program, a two-year trial limited to only 25 DBE  (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) participants, 15 from Maryland, ten from Delaware, is intended to develop and provide, among other things, a skilled DBE workforce for federal-aid highway contractors working in Maryland and Delaware.      A panel of distinguished judges chose Asphalt General for the 2010 Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise award from 5,000 nominations.  Selection was based on entrepreneurs who demonstrated outstanding achievement in four key areas: entrepreneurship, client satisfaction, professional and community contributions.  This year's ceremony will be held at the University of Maryland University College on October on October 21st  at 5:30 PM and is sponsored by The Center for Business Inclusion and Diversity (CBID); the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) Southwest Airlines; HMSHost, PNC Bank, the State of Maryland, and  greiBO media.    
     The Inaugural Salute to Women of Achievement Gala Dinner presented by Professional Women in Construction will be held the evening prior on October 20, 6PM at The Sofitel in Washington, D.C.
