Off The Grid in Panama - Interview with visionary green hospitality entrepreneur Gina Cronin

Green hospitality entrepreneur Gina Cronin is the owner of Rancho de Caldera, an off the grid green hospitality project in Boquete, Panama. Her eco-lodge and gourmet restaurant are popular among nature lovers, Yoga fans, horse back riders.

Oct. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Gina, you realized a vision that many only dream of: an off the grid home cum eco-resort, gourmet restaurant and horse ranch in the hills of western Panama, near the border with Costa Rica. How did that come about?

On my very first visit to the property that is now Rancho de Caldera, I knew instantly that I had arrived, that I was home; the fact that I was in another country, didn't speak the language, or know anyone didn't seem to matter.  It felt right to be here then, as it does now.
I felt an immediate connection to nature, the environment and the awesome beauty here. With invaluable help from Chris McCall and the construction team, we endeavored to create a beautiful and serene resort while being environmentally conscious.

Local rumor has it your clean energy supply is sometimes more reliable than the grid, how did you achieve this degree of energy independence?

In tune with our weather patterns, we use a combination of solar panels, hydro-electric and wind generator to provide for our electrical needs.

We've implemented "green" policies at the resort, were certified by Green Globe and are working on greater sustainability.

Is your eco project open to visitors and overnight guests?

Yes it is. We invite people interested in learning about natural living to visit us in Boquete, western Panama, and immerse themselves in an environment that nurtures the soul, energizes the body - and almost overwhelms the senses with an abundance of natural beauty.

What is your philosophy about life in general?

I believe that it is the simple things in life that bring the greatest pleasure - great food, natural living, communion with family and friends, comfortable living quarters and beds and harmonious interaction with our surroundings.

Thank you for the interview Gina.
