By Roland Salazar Rose

My ninth art book San Miguel de Allende: A Magical Place with Foreword by Lulu Torbet and Poems by Bill Pearlman is now available. It is my  “personal tribute to San Miguel, in words and pictures;” and dedicated to the Biblioteca Pública de San Miguel de Allende, AC; Staff and Volunteers because the Biblioteca is much more than a library; it can be said to be the hub of the expatriate community and without it–foreign and local sanmiguelenses and visitors–will suffer greatly.

Is San Miguel a Magical Place? I find no difficulty in responding affirmatively to this question. In my twenty year artistic residency here, I have witnessed many changes to this community that have been both good and bad. In judging whether they are either good or bad, I know that I’m being self-serving in some instances. But assessing matters overall, setting aside mundane considerations, I am personally persuaded that the magic
of San Miguel is atmospheric. It is therefore likely that it attaches itself to people in different ways. For me the magic is the light.
