NEW World / Afro-Peruvian CD: “Amarte”

Afrodita's debut CD AMARTE creates a new sound seamlessly merging Peruvian landos and festejos with afro-Cuban rumbas, R&B, jazz, Arabic motifs, and floaty rock and dance digressions.

Sept. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Deeply rooted in the powerful rhythms of Afro Peru, Afrodita expands out into the universe incorporating the sounds of contemporary world music.  Their debut CD Amarte breaks out of the "box" creating a new sound seamlessly merging Peruvian landos and festejos with afro-Cuban rumbas, cha cha cha’s, R&B, jazz, Arabic motifs, and floaty rock and dance digressions. Afrodita's original songs undulate in flips and turns, with insightful lyrics that embrace love, environmental themes and social critique.

This collective of seven exceptional musicians led by composer Hector Morales on Cajon and Drums, will take you out of this world from the very first note. Ileana Santamaria, daughter of the legendary “Mongo” Santamaria, with her intimate and groovy voice, and Jean Rohe, possessor of a captivatingly fresh voice, take turns at the lead vocals, while Roland Satterwhite (violin), Matt Kanelos (keyboards), Eric Kurimski (guitar) and Nick Morrison (bass) provide soulful accompaniment with their unique melodies and harmonies.   Finally Hector “Jereto” Ferreyra on Congas adds the contagious kick of afro-Peruvian grooves that set bodies into motion.

In addition to Afrodita’s core members, many guest artists, such as Cuba’s sensational percussionist/singer Pedrito Martinez, bringing the dazzling heat of afro-Cuban Rumba, and the legendary Peruvian Mariela Valencia, with her authentic voicings of black Peru, have participated in this truly collective effort.  This recording is not just a merging of rhythms and styles but also an encounter between people from all corners of the world: Peru, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Iraq, Canada and the United States, to celebrate music and give life to Amarte.

The CD is available on all major online music distributors like, Cdbaby (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/afrodita), amazon.mp3, itunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/amarte/id390356674)  and more.
