Norman Anderson aka Normski has been taking photographs of street style, hip hop and music for over 20 years. He has been at the forefront of youth culture as one of its ambassadors since his appearance on the BBC’s ground breaking music programme “Dance Energy”. Already an established photographer working for magazines like ID, Record Mirror, Smash Hits, Dazed and Confused and the legendary Hip Hop Connection he then started shooting promo shots and record sleeves of artists and groups for all the major record companies. His work has been exhibited many times around the world and now these wonderfully evocative photographs are available to buy. His collection features iconic jazz and soul artists including Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Roy Ayres, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Lionel Ritchie, Robert Palmer and Whitney Houston. As hip hop forms a huge part of the collection you will find some of the biggest names that laid the path for so many to follow including Run DMC, Public Enemy, Kool Mo Dee, De La Soul, Big Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante, KRS 1, NWA, Cypress Hill, Tribe called Quest, Ice T, Flava Flave, Dr Dre and the late Guru from Gangsta. I remember one day I would be at the Hammersmith Odeon photographing classic Motown Legends Atlantic Starr and the next day I would be at the Brixton Academy to capture afro centric daisy agers De La Soul.” Then there’s his reportage work that is constantly updated as his camera, to this day, rarely sleeps. His experiences whilst travelling have produced some overwhelming landscape shots- some taken hanging from helicopters, and portraits of real people taken in and around Camden Town, London where he grew up.
