By: City and County of Swansea The event is taking place on Sunday (September 26) and a Ford Focus is up for grabs for anyone who makes history thanks to Alberto Culver and Day's of South Wales. The men's record of 27:39 is held by Kenya's Felix Limo and the women's record of 32:36 was set by compatriot Rehab Ddungu. Thousands of runners will be taking to the course along Oystermouth Road between St Helen's and Mumbles Square to mark the 30th time the race has been held. People from across the world will be donning their trainers as well as celebrities including singing sensation Katherine Jenkins. Junior 1km, 3km and 5km runs have also been organised and a comprehensive pre-event warm-up will feature stalls, entertainment and a mascot race. Athletics hero Jamie Baulch will be on hand to start some of the races and hand out prizes and certificates. The fun starts at about 11am and will last until about 2.30pm. Nigel Jones, Swansea Council's Special Events Manager, will mark his 25th year as race director. He said: "It's remarkable to see how the event has grown in stature since its inception in 1981. The race is now widely recognised as one of the best of its kind in the UK and attracts a wonderful mix of seasoned athletes, fun runners and people raising money for so many worthy causes. "The Admiral Swansea Bay 10K is a family-friendly occasion that generates a terrific atmosphere for people of all ages and it's become an important fixture on Swansea's annual events calendar. I'd urge people to come along, watch the races and enjoy the occasion. "The race helps to raise Swansea's profile as a magnificent location to hold events of this nature." The following events will take place at the following times: * 11am- 1km race for children aged seven and under starting from Sketty Lane car park. * 11:15am- 1km race for children aged between eight and 11 starting from Sketty Lane car park. * 11:30am- 3km race for children aged between nine and 14 starting from Blackpill Lido. * Noon- 5km race for young people aged between 15 and 20 starting from Oystermouth Square. * 12:55pm- Admiral Swansea Bay 10K wheelchair athletes race starting from St Helen's. * 1pm- Admiral Swansea Bay 10K for people aged 15 and over starting from St Helen's. * 1:10pm- Mascot race over 100 metres from St Helen's to Brynmill lights.
