New Biology Gallery to Open at Arizona Science Center

All About Me in the Steele Foundation Gallery explores the human body and opens Sept. 27, 2010!

Sept. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- PHOENIX, AZ (September 15, 2010) – Arizona Science Center is proud to announce the opening of its newest permanent gallery offering, All About Me, which opens in the Steele Foundation Gallery on Monday, September 27, 2010! Made possible through the $30 million The Future of Education is Science capital and endowment program, this exciting new gallery offers guests a dynamic experience to further our mission to inspire, educate and entertain people of all ages about science!

All About Me explores the complexities of the human body, showcase a new, state-of-the-art multi-media demonstration theatre, and challenge visitors to learn how to keep their bodies healthy!

Gallery highlights include:

•   Exploring the physical aspects of the body, including genetic traits - from birth to how personal choices can affect body functions
•   A state-of-the-art, multi-media science stage where guests will experience live, interactive demonstrations that will help them understand how their body works and functions
•   Walk through an enormous “working” stomach complete with the sights, sounds and smells of the digestive process
•   Heart Surgery Theatre where guests can watch surgeries being performed, featuring the techniques of Dr. Edward B. Diethrich
•   Test their heart muscles in our all-new Wheelchair Racer exhibit
•   Assess health choices and weigh the options of food, exercise and lifestyle choices
•   Explore the systems of the human body - from defense and immunity to cardio and pulmonary, digestive and skeletal
•   Hear your actual heartbeat as it plays on a bass drum
•   Body Depot Hardware Lab where guests will explore how the “tools” of the body work to repair and keep our bodies healthy, and how to discover and enhance this ability through their investigations

The Body Depot Hardware Lab was made possible through a five-year, Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) from the National Center for Research Resources at the National Institutes of Health. This program will give students and the general public a glimpse into the human body, its parts and processes, and new advances in biomedical research and technology!

New features of All About Me will serve to feature some of Arizona Science Center’s most popular events, demonstrations and workshops. The Body Depot Hardware Lab will host Busy Bones Workshop, where students from 2nd to 6th grade will gain an appreciation and understanding of the complexity of bones through a hands-on dissection experiment. Biotech Talks and Science Café will take place in our new state-of-the-art Demonstration Theatre.

A special Members-only preview of All About Me will take place Sunday, September 26, and the gallery opens to the general public on Monday, September 27. This new permanent gallery will be free with paid general admission. For more information, please visit azscience.org or call 602-716-2000.
