First order of business must be to reduce our own salaries and expenses by 24% over the current 4 year term of office.
By: Peter CLARKE “Our city purse is near empty and we have an unprecedented fiscal crisis thanks in to the chronic spending habits of incumbent councillors who have been lavishly sitting around city hall for the past two decades. Now is the time for those of us seeking elected office as councillors to show leadership by leading and agreeing to lower the salaries and expenses of the public service job we ourselves seek”, CLARKE says. First a 24% cut in both the salary and expenses of councillors over the current four year term of office commencing after October 25. Second the rescinding of the one full year golden severance benefit package the incumbent councillors passed for themselves which takes effect after they have been defeated at the polls by the voters. This must be one of the first motions of business by the new council and would save the taxpaying public over $5.4 Million dollars. This leads by example and tells the union and non union employees of Toronto that they had better start coming up with some meaningful cost savings and job efficiency solutions to present to a new council”, he said. This would start the new council off on the right foot for openness, accountability and transparency for Toronto over the next four years and further head the city in the direction of getting a grip on the past chronic spending habits of incumbents, CLARKE strongly believes. CLARKE urges voters to take the time and visit this election site for details on the positions of all those seeking your vote this October 25, 2010. http://www.insidetorontovotes.ca/ # # # CLARKE an INDEPENDENT NOT a CAREER Politician or supporter of any political party, special interest group or lobbyists.
