Manhattan-based writer/director Jazzmyn Banks will screen her anticipated film, Writer’s Block, at a November 2010 charity event held by Artists Raising Awareness as a living example of what can be accomplished despite medical obstacles. Artists Raising Awareness (ARA) aims to raise consciousness about issues that affect the human spirit and communities. The event will feature special guests, the work of other artists afflicted with serious chronic conditions, and interviews with everyday individuals who lead meaningful lives despite their daily challenges.

Banks has also been a community activist and educator for individuals in the medical field and those living with disabilities and chronic illnesses. Over night at the age of seven, Banks was stricken with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. By age ten, she was wheelchair-bound, and her childhood dreams of being a dancer were dashed. Despite narrow-minded views from society and often uninspiring opinions from medical professionals, Banks has made incredible achievements in her life. She has been in the entertainment field for 18 years, starting off as a radio disc jockey, she has established herself as a graphic artist, editor, screenwriter, director, stand up comedienne and inspiration to many.

The event will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and honor artists who have a chronic illness and still achieve their goals.
