Appnation Predicts One Million Mobile Apps By 2012

Day One of APPNATION defines Net 3.0 with heavy hitters from New York to London to locals focused on mobile app development and where the $$$ is being made

Sept. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- SAN FRANCISCO - September 13, 2010 – San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom welcomed a registered crowd of over 1,000 regional and national app developers, media companies, ad networks, press and other members of the app ecosystem at the inaugural APPNATION Conference at San Francisco’s Moscone Center North. Drew Ianni, chairman and founder of APPNATION, also revealed original APPNATION research that there will be one million mobile apps available for download by the year 2012. APPNATION is an ambitious and bold new thought leadership conference and exposition focusing exclusively on the burgeoning consumer applications revolution and global app economy.

“With so many other events competing for attention, we were pleasantly surprised by the late surge of registrations for APPNATION,” said Ianni. “We were expecting somewhere between 500 – 800 attendees, but we’ve already crossed 1,000 registrations by the first morning of the show. This tells us that we are onto something and helps us plan for more regional shows.”

Ianni continued, “What we’re onto is what I call Net 3.0. This is beyond Web 2.0, it is a new era of ubiquitous computing.”

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom officially welcomed the crowd. Newsom spoke about openness, and how the availability of government data combined with the imagination and entrepreneurial spirit of developers here in the Bay Area, will revolutionize government as we know it. The Mayor also announced that he would also be issuing a challenge to developers to make the official Gavin Newsom app for his campaign for Lieutenant Governor.

Jonathan Carson, CEO, Telecom Practice, The Nielsen Company, unveiled their latest Mobile Apps Playbook, a research study based on an August survey of more than 4,000 mobile subscribers who reported having downloaded an app in the previous 30 days. The study focuses on the overall App Economy, and the Nielsen Company’s full whitepaper was released at the event.

APPNATION is a conference tailored for the entire mobile app ecosystem, but developers had their own area to show off their wares called DEVNATION.  Beyond the physical displays, developers also received tangible benefits in the keynotes and panels. Speaking on a panel called Big Media in the Age of Applications, John Kosner, SVP & GM, New Media at ESPN, gave out his email address and stated, “We are looking for developers.”
