Sept. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Italian high fashion house Fendi is best known for its handbags. The Fendi name has become an international name for luxury, good tastes and style. Fendi furs, handbags, perfumes, colognes and leather goods are legendary. The answer to rigid handbags is the innovative creation of soft, unstructured bags. The leather is printed, woven, dyed and tanned to make it more soft and attractive and so begins the journey of a new generation of Fendi bags. The success of furs and bags leads to the need to offer a complete image of the Fendi style.
Fendi began in 1918 when Adele Casagrande opened a leather and fur shop in Via del Plebiscito in central Rome. When Adele married Edoardo Fendi in 1925, they made a decision to change the name to Fendi. The business prospered, and a new shop was opened in Via Piave in 1932. By 1946 Paola, 15, the eldest of the couple's five daughters, went to work for the firm, followed by her sisters Carla, Anna, Franca, and Alda. In 1965 Karl Lagerfeld joined Fendi and today Fendi is owned by Louis Vuitton Moet Hennesy Fendi perfume and cologne; Asja, Fantasia, Fendi Uomo, are worldwide successes. For local Fendi products go to Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdale's and for online special sale items including Fendi gift sets and Fendi gift baskets at up to 50% off retail prices, see the resource list below.
The Fendi team went on to invent new ways of working with fur, tanning, dying, and treating, taking previously unused skins and turning them into fashionable garments. By 1966 Fendi had presented its first couture fur collection, designed by Lagerfeld. It was an immediate success with foreign buyers. Marvin Traub, president of Bloomingdale's, discovered Fendi's leather goods and introduced them to the United States. Other outlets soon followed, and today Fendi is largely represented through high-end department stores.
In 2007 Fendi was the protagonist of a unique world event it was the first fashion house to stage a fashion show on the Great Wall of China. 88 models, 44 from China and 44 from around the world, for a catwalk of 88 metres, one of the longest ever (8 is considered a magical number in China). International guests who attended the event, together with Bernard Arnault, Silvia Venturini Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld and Michael Burke, included: Thandie Newton, Kate Bosworth, Zhang Ziyi, and Jeon Do-Yeon.
In February 2008 for 22 Avenue Montaigne Fendi store opening, a selected audience of 400 guests attended the private concert of 5 Grammy Awards winner Amy Winehouse. Guests from the entertainment, fashion, cinema and art worlds included: Rihanna, Sofia Coppola, Kanye West, Claudia Schiffer, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Hessler, Ludivine Sagnier, Jade Jagger, Milla Jovovich, Gaspard Ulliel, Marisa Berenson, Cecile Cassel, Zoe Cassavetes.  Fendi has over 160 boutiques in some 25 countries around the world.
