Richmond-Area Workshop Helps Authors Navigate the World of Book Publishing and Marketing

Sept. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Many new authors grapple with the question, “I’ve written a book, now what?”  

On September 18th, 2010 an afternoon workshop led by Richmond publishing professionals Margaret Oleksa of Local Talent Books and Music, Casey Quinlan of Mighty Casey Media, and Sarah McCollum of Hartwood Creative and Capital City Books will tackle that question.  

The workshop “Navigating the World of Book Publishing and Marketing,” will be held from 12-5 at the Enterprise Meeting Center (2708 Enterprise Parkway, Richmond, VA, 23294).

Book coach and marketer Margaret Oleksa will discuss the business of publishing and printing and explore different book distribution channels. Oleksa has long been featuring Virginia authors through her website and will also address ways authors can promote their work online.

Author, speaker, and social media guru Casey Quinlan will talk about book and author branding as well as pre-launch marketing and publicity. She will share social networking tips and tricks that helped her book, Cancer for Christmas, climb to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list.  

Manuscript editing and submissions will be addressed by editor and publisher, Sarah McCollum, who will offer insight into writing a good query letter, choosing an editor, and tailoring manuscript submissions to either a small, mid-size, or large publishers.

Participants will emerge with the tools to create a plan for editing, publishing and marketing their book projects. The fee for the workshop is $50.00 and includes an extensive packet of resources—from sample query letters to step-by-step marketing plans. Local writers of all stripes are invited to participate.
